Cherry and Joel made their small talk. She started telling him about a tattoo she wanted him to design for her. Their food came. Trisha poked at her eggs.

“Hey,” Cherry said. “Serious question. For both of you. Are you happy off the shit?”

Weird, and very un-Cherry-like. “Yeah,” Trish said. Joel took a moment longer and agreed.

“Why?”

“There’s a new clinic downtown. It’s, like, right next door to Paulie’s place, and I go by it a lot, and every time it makes me think.”

“I had a really good experience in rehab. Took me away, put me somewhere for a month, helped me clean up. Then the meetings after were really good,” Joel said.
